THE TRIUMPH OF APOLLO

Watercolor and gold leaf on paper | 30 x 22 cm.

This work explores the eternal struggle between Apollonian order and Dionysian frenzy. Apollo emerges triumphant, symbolizing the victory of proportion, beauty, and absolute certainty over the chaotic nature of existence.

As the god of prophecy, Apollo reveals what is to come. It makes me wonder: if we truly knew the future, would we strive to prevent it, or would the prophecy fulfill itself regardless? In this piece, the stars align into constellations to exert their influence, while harmony finally tames the unexpected.

The god Apollo emerges triumphant from his court on Mount Olympus; below, the defeated Dionysian figures. It is the triumph of order, proportion, and beauty over chaos and bacchanalian frenzy. The defeat of chaos, which arises from existence itself, to transform into order, into harmony, into the beautiful and just proportion of things. Apollo is also the prophetic god, the one capable of revealing what is about to happen. I wonder if this is possible, since if we knew what was going to happen, we would do everything possible to prevent it, and then it would be difficult for it to actually occur. But ultimately, Apollo is associated with prediction. In the work, the stars form their constellations, which exert this direct influence on the future of humankind, while Apollo bursts onto the scene with his defeated enemies below. Order and prediction prevail over chaos and uncertainty. Apollo's triumph is the triumph of absolute certainty, of that which never escapes control, of what is expected and of what, in harmony, reveals itself to us as perfect. Apollo's triumph is the triumph of that part of our consciousness that seeks security and certainty, defeating chaos and the unexpected.
