THE NYMPH AND THE FAUN

Watercolor on paper | 29x23 cm.

Nymphs and fauns represent the connection with the earth, with instinct, with what is forbidden by social conventions. They represent the Dionysian, unbridled, and that which can be as provocative as it is aggressive and dangerous. They are an interesting theme, exploring the unconscious, that which the ego and superego prevent from surfacing in the consciousness. I believe that nymphs and fauns are also connected to nature, to the spirit of the forest, to flowers, plants, and everything that lives in the depths, that which happens in a world invisible to the eyes and the senses, but which is part of the cycle of life in remote and unexplored places. And just as we see the flowers, the water, and the animals of the forest and ignore much about them, in the same way these mythological beings are part of the deep, primordial connection with the earth, the forest, and nature; that which can turn human wisdom into pure ignorance.
